Making the most out of your notes
October 24, 2024

At Human Health, we believe that your health shouldn’t be reduced to measuring the severity of your symptoms or how many treatments you’ve completed this week. Our users deserve more; the ability to personalize how they manage their health, because every individual is unique, and should be able to document their journey in a way that accurately depicts their experience.
So we created Notes — your new best friend when it comes to keeping track of specific details about your health that you want to remember and share with your healthcare team, your loved ones, or just for your own records.
5 ways you can use Notes in the Human Health app
This list of ideas for how to use Notes is not exhaustive — you are welcome to use the Notes feature however you see fit.
Add extra context to symptoms or health events
For example, if you are experiencing chest pain, it could be useful to use Notes to describe the character of the pain, such as burning, stabbing, or aching. Doctors will often ask what the pain felt like to try and determine what might have caused it.
If you’ve broken a bone, you can use Notes to document how it happened when you log it in your app.
You might’ve had a particularly poor sleep due to a nightmare, or maybe the weather was a bit warmer than usual that night, or you just couldn’t quiet your thoughts — recording this context in a Note when you rate the impact of your sleep problems could help you and your practitioner learn more about your health.
Record important life events
Specific life events, such as moving schools, having a child, or losing a sibling, can change what our lives look like altogether, and this might include impacting our health, positively or negatively, as a result.
As such, it might be helpful to record when these events happen, so you and your healthcare team can keep an eye on how these events might be affecting you.
Examples of life events to track could include:
- Went on a holiday
- Got a career promotion
- Breakup of a relationship
- Competed in a sports competition
- Experiencing a natural disaster like a hurricane, flood, earthquake etc.
- Starting a new hobby
Anything you deem as an event is trackable – your Notes are completely personalized to you.
Document possible triggers or patterns
Nobody knows your body like you do, and sometimes you might notice patterns starting to emerge in relation to when your symptoms are getting better or worse.
For example, you could have noticed that your asthma symptoms get particularly bad when it’s storming out. You could use Notes to document every time you’re exposed to stormy weather. This could help you easily remember when you’ve been exposed to triggers like weather, and that you need to discuss them with your practitioner at your next visit.
If you also use the Human Health app for symptom tracking, you’ll be able to compare how your symptoms have been changing with when you’ve been exposed to triggers. This might help your healthcare team determine information about your condition and how it affects you.
As a diary
Sometimes we just need a place to document our thoughts, feelings, and anything else that comes across our mind. Your Notes are an open space for you to record anything and everything you can think of, and if what you need is a diary, Notes can be the perfect place for that.
Notes can be viewed chronologically (in order of time) from the Timeline, so you can easily go back and review your entries. This view might also be insightful when considering your previous entries in the context of how your symptoms were impacting you at the time.
Celebrate wins
It’s always nice to be reminded of how far we’ve come, no matter how big or small the achievement. You can use Notes to record every ‘win’, so that you can look back on them when you’re feeling overwhelmed or disheartened.
Some examples of wins you could record in Notes:
- Slept for a full 8 hours
- Completed a walk around the block
- Stayed at school for a full day
- Finished my homework
- Attended a social event by myself
If you’re proud of it, it counts as a win, and you should celebrate accordingly!
